AMERICAN IDOL
American Idol (American Idol: The Search for a Superstar in season 1) is an American singing competition airing on FOX. It debuted on June 11, 2002, and has since become one of the most popular shows on American television. Part of the Idol franchise, it is a spinoff from the reality program Pop Idol, which was created by British entertainment executive Simon Fuller and first aired in 2001 in the United Kingdom.

Auditions for the next season of “American Idol” began this week in New Orleans as the short list of possible judges to fill Simon Cowell’s empty seat kept growing. The latest name being considered: Jessica Simpson.

“Jessica has been approached about ‘American Idol’ but nothing has been confirmed yet on either end,” a source close to Simpson told TODAYshow.com.

If Simpson does get the “Idol” green light, don’t expect her to be the permanent replacement for Cowell. “She’s not his replacement — they’re two entirely different personalities,” according to a source who’s quoted in the new issue of Life & Style magazine. “This is part of a massive overhaul of the show. There may be more judges, more opinions.”

"Initially, we have set a target of receiving one million foreign tourists during the tourism year 2011 and expecting more than two million afterwards," he said.

The Minister said Parjatan Corporation, the national tourism facilitating body, has already chalked out lots of events for round the year blending with traditional, cultural, tribal and religious festivals, he said.

The promotional campaign for the tourist year would be conducted as public private partnership. "We are looking for private organizations for holding international standard events as well as conducting overseas promotional campaign," he added.

He said the tourism ministry has already selected more than 750 places as tourist spots and taken initiatives to develop infrastructure facilities there with the help of local government division.

The ministry is actively considering for building some special tourist zones only for the foreigners with foreign investment, the minister added.

The country has lots of tourist tempting treasures in terms of both natural beauty, culture, heritage and archeological aspects, he said, adding but "we have never conducted such huge international promotional campaign to attract travelers."

"We have to spread the message among the foreigners that Bangladesh is enriched with many resources attractive to travelers," Quader said.

PRITY ZINTA

A local court on Saturday issued arrest warrants against IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab co-owners actress Preity Zinta and industrialists Ness Wadia and Mohit Burman for failing to appear before it on a complaint accusing them of not filing its balance sheets and annual returns.

The bailable warrants were issued by Chief Judicial Magistrate J S Sidhu after neither the three co-owners nor their counsels appeared before the court on a complaint filed by the Registrar of Companies (ROC) here.

However, another co-owner and industrialist Karan Paul's counsel appeared before the court and submitted that he would appear in person on the next date of hearing.

The court later adjourned the case till October 4.

The court had in April issued notice to the four co-owners of KXIP and fixed July 24 as the next date of hearing.

The prosecution submitted that the co-owners of the company had tried to conceal the financial position of KPH Dreams, which owns KXIP, from the public by not filing the balance sheets and annual returns.

In our complaint, "we had submitted that the Mohali franchise had not filed any annual return and balance sheet since it came into existence," Gaurav Hooda, counsel for the ROC, said on Saturday.

ANGELINA JOLIE AND BRAD PITT

They were the cool couple in black, he in a linen suit and she in a fabulous, form-fitting strapless leather dress. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stopped traffic on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles on Monday, Aug. 10, as they joined Quentin Tarantino at the premiere of "Inglourious Basterds."

That's Tarantino's quirky film foray into World War II, with Pitt in the starring role. As Tarantino told reporters earlier at a press day for the film, "we've been wanting to work with each other for a little while now, and when I was writing this script with Aldo as the main character, Brad has been in my mind for a long time and he's always just been Aldo. It was Brad Pitt and then there was nobody else. I'm usually happy about having a second and a third choice, but not this time."

Tarantino got Pitt to play "this hillbilly, part Indian, who would know a lot about war history and Geronimo's battle plan, who would take a bunch of Jewish American soldiers, go behind enemy lines and do an Apache resistance against the Nazis," which should tell audiences that this is a slightly wacky, very R-rated war film.

No one seemed to worry much about the graphic violence as the movie unspooled at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, especially not Brad's German-born co-star Diane Kruger, who wore a minidress made with black glass fringe and a daringly low-cut open back.

"People are always asking me, 'Well, how is it going to go down in Germany?' People were cheering when we screened it there, because the truth is they've wanted to get rid of Hitler if they could, for years, get it over with for years," she said.

Joining in the cheering at the premiere were Tarantino fans Bridget Fonda, Sarah Silverman, Carla Gugino, Samuel L. Jackson, Tia Carrere, Tony Hawk, Christina Ricci, Jeremy Renner, Cloris Leachman, Maria Menounos, and the other stars of "Basterds" - Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent, B. J. Novak, Christoph Waltz, and Michael Fassbender.

Fox immediately lost her 2-carat engagement ring in the sand, but sources say the ring was found in time for their ceremony.

The couple is currently honeymooning on the Big Island in Hawaii.

the mystery smile of MON A LISA

WATCH NOW

The enigmatic smile remains a mystery, but French scientists say they have cracked a few secrets of the "Mona Lisa."

French researchers studied seven of the Louvre Museum's Leonardo da Vinci paintings, including the "Mona Lisa," to analyze the master's use of successive ultrathin layers of paint and glaze — a technique that gave his works their dreamy quality.

Specialists from the Center for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France found that da Vinci painted up to 30 layers of paint on his works to meet his standards of subtlety. Added up, all the layers are less than 40 micrometers, or about half the thickness of a human hair, researcher Philippe Walter said Friday.

The technique, called "sfumato," allowed da Vinci to give outlines and contours a hazy quality and create an illusion of depth and shadow. His use of the technique is well-known, but scientific study on it has been limited because tests often required samples from the paintings.

The French researchers used a noninvasive technique called X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy to study the paint layers and their chemical composition.

They brought their specially developed high-tech tool into the museum when it was closed and studied the portraits' faces, which are emblematic of sfumato. The project was developed in collaboration with the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble.

The tool is so precise that "now we can find out the mix of pigments used by the artist for each coat of paint," Walter told The Associated Press. "And that's very, very important for understanding the technique."

The analysis of the various paintings also shows da Vinci was constantly trying out new methods, Walter said. In the "Mona Lisa," da Vinci used manganese oxide in his shadings. In others, he used copper. Often he used glazes, but not always.

The results were published Wednesday in Angewandte Chemie International Edition, a chemistry journal.

Tradition holds that the "Mona Lisa" is a painting of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo, and that da Vinci started painting it in 1503. Giorgio Vasari, a 16th-century painter and biographer of da Vinci and other artists, wrote that the perfectionist da Vinci worked on it for four years.

Police are investigating an alleged assault inside San Diego Comic-Con’s 6,000-person Hall H that occurred today around 5 p.m. PST. According to San Diego police, one man stabbed another in the face near the eye in a dispute over seating near the rear of the hall. Police say attendees subdued the attacker, who was arrested without further incident, and led out of the hall by police in handcuffs to boos from the crowd, according to an EW reporter on the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital, and the person’s status remains unknown. The incident occurred in between the panels for the movies Resident Evil: Afterlife and the sci-fi comedy Paul. The star-studded panel for Paul was delayed approximately 30 minutes while movie trailers were screened for the Hall H crowd. Later that evening, during the Hall H presentation for Universal’s Cowboys and Aliens, star Harrison Ford was led onto the stage in handcuffs by Comic-Con “guards.” The sight gag, which received a standing ovation from the audience, was just an amazing coincidence, however. A studio rep said it was an orchestrated joke to play off how Ford, who’s never attended Comic-Con, had been “dragged” to the convention against his will. The gag had been in the works since Friday.

The stars sued the newspaper in January over a story saying they would separate and had agreed custody arrangements.

Appearing in London's High Court, the couple's lawyer said that News Group Newspapers now accepted the allegations were "false and intrusive".

The couple were not present for Thursday's hearing.

The actors' action, for misuse of private information and breach of the 1998 Data Protection Act, was concerned with a front page story dated 24 January, which had the headline "Pitts all over".

The article alleged that Jolie and/or Pitt had visited a divorce lawyer in December 2009, and that the couple had reached an agreement regarding the division of their assets.

But a statement from Schillings Lawyers noted that Sorrell Trope, identified by some publications as the divorce lawyer in question, had never met the couple.

"I have never met... your clients or had any involvement with either of them. The foregoing is true with respect to all other members of this firm," said Trope in a letter quoted in the statement.

In court on Thursday morning, lawyer Keith Schilling said the News of the World, which argued that it had acted in good faith, had now agreed to publish an apology.

It will also pay Pitt and Jolie's costs and damages, which they intend to donate to their charity, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

The newspaper confirmed that a settlement had been reached, but declined to comment further.

She became famous from the 1990s for her role as Rachel Green in the popular US sitcom Friends, a role for which she won an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has starred in several Hollywood films.

Jennifer Aniston has explained why she changed the name of her new perfume just days before its launch. She says she discovered a fragrance with a similar title was already on sale.

The former Friends actress spent months deliberating over the name of her debut scent and finally settled on calling it Lolavie, which means 'laughing at life'.

But as the launch date approached, marketing bosses realized the name was too similar to a fragrance by fashion designer Marc Jacobs, called Lola.

Speaking at the launch of the scent in London, Aniston admits it was too late to rebrand the perfume with a different name, so she decided to call it simply 'Jennifer Aniston'.

She tells Reuters, "It turned out as we were getting close to the launch, there was something out there that was very similar and it was just going to get very confusing in the marketplace. And at such a late hour, I didn't want to postpone the launch so the only thing we could really clear was my name."

Aniston recently told Women's Wear Daily magazine why she picked Lolavie: "It's a long story and honestly it's too personal to tell, but it has a special significance.

About christopher nolan christopher jonathan james nolan

Christopher NolanChristopher
Christopher NolanChristopher Jonathan James Nolan (born 30 July 1970) is a British-American filmmaker, writer and producer. The son of an English father and American mother, Nolan is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and the United States. He is married to Emma Thomas, his longtime producer. They have four children together and reside in Los Angeles. He often collaborates with his brother, author Jonathan Nolan, and actor Christian Bale.

Hearing writer/director Christopher Nolan talk about it, this has been a natural progression for him. "To be honest, I've been very fortunate in my career in many ways, but very much in the way in which I've been able to build one film to the next," he told MTV's Josh Horowitz at the recent "Inception" press junket. "I started with the smallest possible scale film, 'Following,' which I made with friends on weekends... just us doing it. [Then] 'Memento,' which had a real budget and a real cast and everything."

"I sort of gradually built on that. What I've tried to do with every new film is I've tried to challenge myself. I don't want to do the same thing again, I don't want to do something I know I can do. I want to try to do something that builds on what I've learned but takes it someplace new."

"Inception" is definitely "someplace new." Exploring dreams in movies is almost as old as the craft itself, but Nolan's specific vision presented in his latest effort is almost overwhelmingly fresh and original. It's one of those rare movies that demands repeat viewing, not because you don't understand it the first time around but rather because each viewing peels back an entirely new, previously unnoticed layer.

It really seems as though Nolan is most pleased with this latest release out of everything he's done. More than that, the typically humble filmmaker sees in "Inception" a model for what he'd like to see more of at the movies. Indeed, there is something undeniably different about it, something that sets the movie apart. It is at once enormously complex and an easy watch.

"Of the films that I've worked on, ['Inception'] is probably the first one that... hasn't shrunk," he explained. "Normally you get to a point where you've worked on [a movie] for so long, you've seen it so many times... there's a point where it becomes something less than what you thought it was. I think 'Inception' resists that, and I think partly it's because the world of human mind, the idea that you can kind of go anywhere in this story, means that its limitations are hard to get a hold of. It kind of lives outside the movie in a way. I think that's fun. I think that's what Hollywood blockbusters should be trying to do."

Studio shake-up reflects changing Hollywood

Studio shake-up reflects changing Hollywood

Studio shake-up reflects changing Hollywood

Management shake-ups at movie giants Universal and Disney reflect the industry's difficulty in adjusting to the digital age and failure to halt sliding DVD sales, analysts say.

In the space of a few weeks, Disney has shown the door to its respected and long-serving chairman Dick Cook while Universal wielded the axe on co-chairmen Marc Shmuger and David Linde on Monday.

"These shifts expose a serious stress that is bubbling to the surface throughout the entertainment industry, and especially theatrical motion pictures," said Jason Squire, a film industry expert at the University of Southern California and editor of "The Movie Business Book."

"At this transitional point between traditional media and new media, the need for a revised business model for motion pictures may be at the heart of some of these changes."

As young consumers increasingly turn to the Internet, mobile phones or video games as sources of entertainment, studios could no longer look to cash in on DVD sales, said Brandon Davis, president of the boxofficemojo.com website.

"DVD is no longer the savior it used to be," he said. "Studios do need to adapt a strategy to continue to make a lot of money in the home video market, and more generally in all the post-theatrical market."

According to figures from Digital Entertainment Group, sales of DVDs tumbled by nine percent in 2008 and nosedived by 13.5 percent in the first six months of 2009. The freefall presents a problem for studios, which rely on DVD earnings to maximize profits.

Disney's decision to replace Cook with Rich Ross -- the former chief of the televised Disney Channel -- signaled an intent to return to basics, according to analyst Gitesh Pandya of boxofficeguru.com.

"At Disney, I think they are going to streamline more and try to focus more on the films they do well: family films," Pandya told AFP.

"One thing we have seen this year is that 3D cinema has become huge, and Disney certainly wants to continue to be a major player in that."

Producer Mark Gill, chief executive of The Film Department and former president of Warner Independent Pictures, said Ross's arrival indicated Disney were planning to focus attention on all areas of the empire.

"You can see they wanted somebody who could work with all parts of the company so they can do well in merchandising, in television, online -- not just in the studio," Gill told AFP.

During his reign at the Disney Channel, Ross presided over the phenomenally successful teen franchises "Hannah Montana" and "High School Musical."

But Squire said the multi-faceted franchise strategy carried certain risks.

"These (franchises) are potentially lucrative, but also risky, because we don't discuss the Disney efforts in similar franchises that have not succeeded as well," he said.

At Universal meanwhile, the changes announced this week follow a disappointing summer at the box office where big-budget productions such as comedies "Land of the Lost" and "Funny People" flopped.

Universal's share of the box office has fallen to just 8.5 percent, significantly trailing the other majors -- Warner Bros, Paramount, Columbia, Fox and Disney.

According to Gill, Universal's woes can be traced back to the problem affecting all major studios of soaring overheads.

"The costs of the major studios are still far too high for the market," he said. "The studios need to cut costs by more than 50 percent and they won't be able to do it. Their costs are way out of the line."

"Two reasons: the habits, they are so used to paying a lot of money for everything. The other one is fear. They are afraid that if they cut costs, they won't be able to compete. But they don't have a choice."

Calvin Klein's Solemn Architecture

Calvin Klein's Solemn Architecture

Architecture seemed the key theme that ran through the latest women's ready-to-wear collection from Calvin Klein on Thursday, Sept. 17, where the globular forms, biological shapes and technical finishes recalled modernist building styles.

The house's women's designer Francisco Costa has always been obsessed with volume and form, and his signature materials are frequently pretty high-tech, but the way fabric jutted, twisted and curled around the body in this collection were highly reminiscent of new hotels and corporate headquarters by architects like Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry. Indeed, the pale grays and soft whites used in the show were uncannily similar to the IAC headquarters on the Hudson River, designed by Gehry.

But what matters more than their inspiration is the clothes quality and style, and this collection had lots of ingenious ideas - like their striking silhouettes, where shoulders blossomed, jackets flared and hemlines drooped. They had an striking sense of the new, without being too bizarrely novel, and you just knew that any of the front-row stars - Eva Mendes, Thandie Newton, Molly Sims and Kerry Washington all attended - would happily walk out of the show space in most of the looks on the runway.

In terms of materials, this was one of the most innovative shows in New York this season, boasting stunning mixes of crinkled silk, metal mohair and lots of needle punched organza. Yet, while the fabrics looked stiff, they never appeared uncomfortable.

Costa also introduced some great new Geisha-like shoes, where sandals straps sat above long block soles. These worked particularly well with some beautiful washed silk A-line dresses in soft hues of citron or coral.

Superman comic book

Superman comic book

The record price for a comic book, already broken twice this year, has been shattered again.

A copy of the 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1 sold Monday for $1.5 million on the auction Web site ComicConnect.com. The issue, which features Superman's debut and originally sold for 10 cents, is widely considered the Holy Grail of comic books.

The same issue sold in February for $1 million, though that copy wasn't in as good condition as the issue that sold Monday. That number was bested just days later when a 1939 comic book featuring Batman's debut sold for $75,000 more at an auction in Dallas.

There are about 100 copies of Action Comics No. 1 believed to be in existence, and only a handful in good condition. The issue that sold Monday was rated slightly higher than the one that sold in February; it had been tucked inside an old movie magazine for years before being discovered.

The issue was bought from a private collector and then sold by Stephen Fishler and Vincent Zurzolo, the co-owners of ComicConnect.com. It was bought minutes after being posted Monday at the asking price of $1.5 million by "a hardcore comic book fan," Fishler said.

"There's been a lot of attempts to acquire this book over the last 15 years," he said. "The recent activity, I guess, did the trick."

Fishler speculated that the sudden burst of record-priced sales are due to "pent-up demand." Issues of such prized comic books rarely become available for purchase. Rarer still are issues in such good condition.

"I can't imagine another book coming on the market that exists that would top this," Fishler said. "This may be the final say — at least for the next 10 or 20 years — for a record price of a comic book.

image of DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres hit the right notes with "American Idol" viewers.

Fans took to the Internet to express their pleasant surprise over the 52-year-old funnylady's debut as the singing competition's fourth judge. DeGeneres assumed her judging panel post for Tuesday's episode chronicling the first round of "Hollywood Week," the cutthroat post-audition phase in which 181 contestants will be narrowed down to 24 semifinalists.

The majority of folks posting about DeGeneres on Twitter praised her performance. Some said they were only tuning in for DeGeneres, but not everyone was a devotee. A denim ensemble worn by Degeneres, also host of "The Ellen Degeneres Show," was mocked by a few tweeters.

When Fox announced that DeGeneres, an Emmy winner with no formal music experience, would be the new judge last September, fans were divided over the unlikely replacement for Paula Abdul, the sugary sweet pop singer who judged "Idol" since it debuted in 2002 then left amid contract negotiations after the eighth season ended last year.

"Ellen completely met my expectations," said Dave Della Terza, founder of VoteForTheWorst.com, which encourages viewers to champion bad — but entertaining — singers. "She was trying way too hard. Her critiques weren't funny because no one wants to see a standup act at the judges' table."

But Andy Dehnart, editor of the popular reality TV blog realityblurred.com and a lecturer at Stetson University, said DeGeneres seemed "more polished and on-point than the people who've been sitting at that table for eight years." DeGeneres is on the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.

"Ellen DeGeneres keeps surprising us," he said. "She excels as a talk show host, and if she keeps up what she did tonight, she'll easily establish herself as the best judge."

As expected, DeGeneres' critiques were punctuated with humor, but she didn't hold back the cruelties either. She joked something seemed wrong with a beatboxer's microphone — just before sending him home. An admittedly drowsy DeGeneres later informed one dull singer that the performance "almost put me right out."

DeGeneres and the other judges were wowed by several guitar-playing singers during Tuesday's episode. DioGuardi dubbed quirky 24-year-old musician Andrew Garcia's rendition of "Straight Up" from former judge Abdul "genius" while DeGeneres called 24-year-old sales representative Jannell Wheeler's version of "American Boy" by Estelle "amazing, amazing."

Other guitar players who advanced in the competition included 20-year-old sandwich maker Lilly Scott, who crooned Ella Fitzgerald's "Lullaby Of Birdland," and brawny 26-year-old personal trainer Michael Lynche, who announced his wife was going into labor with their first child before launching into John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change."

DeGeneres' addition comes at a time of change for the aging Fox franchise, which is produced by 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia North America. Cowell is leaving at the end of the current season to judge and executive produce an American version of "The X Factor," a talent show he created in Britain. DeGeneres didn't let Cowell off for the move.

"So this is it, huh?" she whispered to him after joining the panel. "I come on, you leave."

Several names have been bandied about as potential Cowell replacements — Oscar-winning actor-singer Jamie Foxx, shock jock Howard Stern, as well as music executives Tommy Mottola, Guy Oseary and Jimmy Iovine. But Fox and the show's producers have not announced a replacement for the acerbic British judge.

A year later, his lead role as a reformed neo-Nazi skinhead in American History X earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.Marvel Studios’ The Avengers is easily one of the most anticipated superhero movie releases of all time, with the studio laying groundwork for the major motion picture event in films like Iron Man, Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America. There was also a memorable cameo appearance by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark at the end of 2008′s The Incredible Hulk, but according to a new report, The Avengers will make one very significant departure from the Jade Giant’s most recent appearance — Edward Norton won’t be reprising his role as Bruce Banner, with the part going to an unknown actor. The lack of Norton in The Avengers is reportedly not because the actor doesn’t want to be a part of the film.according to DrewvMCWeeny at HitFix,Marvel will announce the full lineup of Avengers at Comic-Con in a couple of short weeks, with an unknown actor filling the role of Bruce Banner. McWeeny reports that Norton’s interest in The Avengers went so far as the actor taking a meeting with not-confirmed-but-come-on-really director Joss Whedon about the project. Although Norton wants to be a part of the film, McWeeny indicates that Marvel has moved on, presumably for financial reasons.

jackson detectives found skin cream

MICHEAL JACKSON
Detectives found large quantities of general anesthetic and dozens of tubes of skin-whitening creams in Michael Jackson's home after the singer's death, search warrants unsealed Friday show.

Investigators went to Jackson's rented mansion June 29 following a lengthy interview with his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who told them he had placed a medical bag in a cupboard in a closet.

At the home, detectives found 11 containers of the powerful anesthetic propofol, some of them empty, as well as a range of sedatives and various medical items including a box of blood pressure cuffs, according to the warrants, which were redacted and unsealed after The Associated Press filed a legal motion.

Jackson's June 25 death at age 50 was ruled a homicide caused by an overdose of propofol and other sedatives. Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

During their search, detectives found 19 tubes of hydroquinone and 18 tubes of Benoquin, both of which are commonly used in the treatment of a skin condition Jackson had called vitiligo. The disease creates patches of de-pigmented skin, and creams can be used to lighten skin that has retained its color to give a more even appearance.

"Some people with vitiligo get to the point where there is so much of them that is pale, it makes more sense to remove the bits that are brown," said Dr. David Sawcer, assistant professor of clinical dermatology at the University of Southern California.

Benoquin is derived from hydroquinone. Though the creams can be used at the same time, it is unusual to do so, Sawcer said. The medications typically come in travel-toothpaste-sized tubes and each treatment usually lasts a few months. Side effects include acute sensitivity to the sun.

"In the places they have no pigment, they are exactly like an albino," Sawcer said.

The discovery of medical creams in Jackson's home dovetails with an odd remark Murray reportedly made soon after Jackson's death.

According to police statements obtained by the AP, Jackson's personal assistant, Michael Amir Williams, told detectives that in the hospital where Jackson was pronounced dead, Murray told him he wanted to return to Jackson's house "so that he could pick up some cream that Mr. Jackson has so that the world wouldn't find out about it."

Alberto Alvarez, Jackson's logistics director, who was summoned to the stricken star's side as he was dying, told police Murray interrupted CPR on the pop star to collect drug vials. He gave the vials and an IV line with a milky substance resembling propofol to Alvarez, according to the statement Alvarez gave police, and told him to put them in bags that were similar in description to those later found in the closet.

The skin cream was not listed as a factor in Jackson's death nor was it detected in a toxicology report. What killed Jackson, according to the autopsy report, was an overdose of propofol, an anesthetic normally used for surgery. Murray told police he gave it to Jackson to help him sleep, a use anesthesiology experts have said is grossly improper.

Dr. Zeev Kain, anesthesiology department chair at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, said he was surprised by the amount of propofol detectives found. Among the 11 containers police said they found were three 100ml vials, which Kain said could be used as general anesthesia for several hours.

"A doctor should not use propofol at home to start with," Kain said.

The warrants also show Murray shipped propofol and other medications to his girlfriend Nicole Alvarez's house in Santa Monica. It's unusual to send propofol to a private residence but not illegal.

Emmy Awards

The Emmy Award, often referred to simply as the Emmy, is a television production award, similar in nature to the Peabody Awards but more focused on entertainment, and is considered the television equivalent to the Academy Awards (for film), Grammy Awards (for music) and Tony Awards (for stage). They are presented in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows,
The 2010 Emmy nominations include nods for Archie Panjabi of 'The Good Wife' and Andre Braugher of 'Men of a Certain Age.' Only two other minorities were nominated in the top categories.

The Emmy awards have a lot of "Glee," but not much color.

A total of four minorities were nominated in the major categories of the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Thursday, only one of them in one of the top four categories.

Lebanese actor Tony Shalhoub returned for the eighth consecutive year to be nominated for best actor in a comedy series for "Monk." The 56-year-old actor has won the same award three times (2003, 2005 and 2006).

Another Emmys mainstay, Andre Braugher, was nominated for best supporting actor for his role in "Men of a Certain Age." The African-American star has won two Emmys in the past, one for "Homicide: Life on the Street" in 1998 and for FX's "Thief" in 2006.

Lindsay Lohan's lawyer calls sentence 'harsh,' resigns from case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lindsay Lohan will be going to jail without one of her biggest advocates — her attorney.

The actress's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, resigned from the case shortly after releasing a statement Thursday calling a judge's 90-day jail sentence for Lohan "harsh and unfair."

No reason for her withdrawal from the high-profile case was given, and her replacement has not been announced.

A representative for the seasoned defense attorney, who fought to keep the Mean Girls star out of jail during a day-long hearing Tuesday, said her earlier remarks about Lohan's sentence remained valid.

"Ms. Lohan and I are extremely disappointed in the sentence handed down by Judge (Marsha) Revel," Holley's statement had read. "We believe that the penalty is far harsher than what others would have received under similar circumstances.

"The reality is that Ms. Lohan, like most defendants, had to balance work commitments with court requirements. To be punished so severely for doing so, particularly in light of the fact that she substantially complied with each of her probationary conditions, is harsh and unfair," it said.

Holley said Lohan would serve her sentence, which because of overcrowding and budget cuts is likely to be much shorter than the three months ordered by the judge.
